KOC 18

Platinum-containing combustion promoter.

On the KOC 18

The occurrence of post-combustion problems (afterburn) may cause serious metallurgical damage to cyclones and gases lines and lead to the FCC unit unexpected shutting downs.

The efficiency of the KOC 18 catalyst, platinum-based combustion promoter of Fábrica Carioca de Catalisadores S.A. and Albemarle has been commercially proven in numerous refineries worldwide, it being a reliable, flexible and low-cost solution that aids refiners in reducing afterburn, avoiding significant losses related to the occurrence of this phenomenon.

Platinum-based (Pt) combustion promoters are routinely employed for catalyzing the CO to CO2 oxidation reaction in FCC units operating in total combustion, providing the increase in CO2 concentration still in the regenerator dense phase.

KOC 18 is manufactured through a proprietary (patented) method that uniformly distributes the metallic Pt on the surface of a specially designed alumina support. The better metal dispersion is a basic condition for maximizing activity since it enables every Pt particle to be catalytically available for the CO to CO2 combustion and minimizes deactivation.

Benefits

  • Promotes coke combustion to CO2 in the FCC unit;
  • Reduction in the temperature differential between the regenerator dense and diluted phases (afterburn).
  • Excellent activity and hydrothermal stability resulting from the Pt uniform distribution on the support.
  • Highly attrition resistant support, minimizing platinum loss.
Commercially proven effective afterburn control in the FCC unit of numerous refineries.
